More delicious pizza in the South Slope.

There was a lot of (well-deserved) hype surrounding the opening of Giuseppina’s, the off-shoot of Lucali’s in Carroll Gardens.  But there is another contender for delicious pizza in the South Slope/Greenwood Heights vicinity that’s been under the radar.

If you haven’t tried yet, check out Pauline and Sharon’s.  While a different style pizza is offered making a direct comparison unfair, Pauline and Sharon’s does deliver which should count for some bonus points somewhere in the evaluation process (you can pick up your pies at Giuseppina’s if you don’t feel like dining in but no delivery).

The puttanesca pie is amazing.  If that’s not enough salty goodness for you, add a Caesar salad which comes with house-made dressing chock full of anchovies.  Word on the street is that the tacos are outstanding.  Will have to give it a try soon.

REBUTTAL Weeknight Dinner: Five Easy Pieces – Part 1

J. Frankfurter said that “[c]ooking a decent dinner every night of the week is a daunting task.”  I couldn’t agree more.  He recently provided a simple recipe for chicken biryani and challenged me to provide a simple recipe for one of my regular weeknight dinners.  No problem.  A busy working gal like myself living in New York City has a full repertoire of recipes just for these occasions.  Enjoy!

MONDAY NIGHT DINNER

Steak Soft Tacos with Chips and Salsa from Burrito Box

There is no need to really explain this dish as the name pretty much speaks for itself.

Ingredients

Burrito Box located at 885 9th Avenue between 57th and 58th Streets (Manhattan).
Cash, credit card or debit card.

Cooking time: 15-20 minutes (1-5 minutes to place order, 10-15 minutes to make order)

1. Walk to Burrito Box.  Alternatively, call Burrito Box at 212-489-6889 (note: cooking time may increase due to additional delivery time).
2. Place order of steak soft tacos and a side of salsa and chips.
3. Pay $10.80 (tax included; tip not included).
4. Pick up order when your number is called.
5. Eat.

You get two steak soft tacos with your order and a variety of condiments including hot sauce, salsa, sour cream and some green sauce that I believe has tomatillo in it.  The steak is grilled as soon as you place your order and comes dressed with tomato, onion, cilantro and lettuce.  Cheese and guacamole are additional.  The salsa is not the best I’ve ever had, but it is neither too thick nor too runny with just a kick of heat at the end.
